Getting settled in a new spot can be a whirlwind, so here is a quick guide to how things work around here.
🗑️ When is trash day?
We are in the GRAY color zone for pickup. You can confirm your specific day by calling 614-645-GRAY (4729) or checking the City’s Trash page online.
♻️ When is recycling day?
Yay for recycling! It’s picked up every Tuesday. Just toss your items loose into the blue bin. Please avoid using plastic bags—the processing center can't open them, so bagged items unfortunately end up in the landfill. Not sure if something is recyclable? Check the SWACO website for a quick list!
🌿 What about yard waste?
Yard waste is collected every other Tuesday. You can use brown paper bags or a clearly marked container. If you’re bundling branches, just keep them under 4 feet and 40 pounds, and use something biodegradable like twine to tie them up.
📱 What is "311"?
Think of 311 as your direct line to City Services. It’s the easiest way to request a bulk pickup for large items or report a burnt-out street light. You can also use it for things like reporting potholes or neighborhood concerns. Check out the 311 website or call (614) 645-3111.
🛋️ How do I get rid of large items?
If it won’t fit in your bin, you’ll need a "bulk pickup." Just submit a request via 311 or call the number above. Make sure to schedule it first, as the city won't be able to grab large items left out on regular trash days.
🍂 Can I rake leaves into the street?
The short answer is "sorry, no." Since the city doesn't have a street vacuum service, please keep leaves and grass clippings out of the road. They can clog our storm drains and cause basement backups—plus, clippings are considered littering. Instead, use your yard waste bags or (even better!) mulch them into your garden beds for extra-healthy soil!
đź‘‹ Come say hello!
When the weather is nice (usually May through September), many of us gather at “The Triangle” (Kingslea & Dover Roads) on Friday evenings around 7:00 p.m. Grab a lawn chair and your favorite drink—we’d love to meet you and show you what makes this place so special!
🏡 Tips for being a great neighbor
We’re so glad you’re here! Here are a few ways we all help keep the neighborhood wonderful:
Bin Timing: To keep the streets clear, try to put bins out after 6:00 p.m. the night before and bring them back in by 9:00 p.m. on collection day.
Paws & Parks: When walking your pup, please keep them leashed and clear away any waste. Also, a friendly tip: neighbors appreciate it if poop bags go into your own trash bin rather than theirs!
Good Vibes: We love a lively neighborhood, so just be mindful of noise levels during late-night gatherings.
Yard Love: Keeping your grass trimmed and weeds in check helps the whole block look its best (and keeps you clear of City Code enforcement!).
